Every avid OMSI 2 player knows there are quite many free maps available for the bus driving simulator OMSI 2, and if you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m more than a little addicted to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time I want to focus on maps that use OMSI 2’s default buses MAN NL\/NG models. In both their standard and articulated versions, they have always been among my favorite buses in the game: stable, not overly fast, relatively easy to drive, and full of nostalgic character and authentic sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These two buses are the backbone of the game, in my humble opinion at least. I’m quite sure that developers will gladly tell you the same if you ever get the chance to have an in-depth conversation with one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything featured in this piece has been thoroughly tested by me to ensure it runs properly, and every map was reinstalled specifically for this article. Also, don’t forget that while the buses themselves don’t need to be downloaded, most freeware maps require several – sometimes many – Splines and Scenery Object packs in order to function correctly. Be sure to use Blue Sky Tool<\/a>, or any other applicable tool, to check each map after installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did I decided whether a map belongs in this article? I checked the AI List, of course. A map was included only if its entire AI list consisted exclusively of references to the two buses mentioned above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One final note: the order in which the maps are presented has no special significance and does not reflect how highly I rate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, as I mentioned above, the order of this list does not reflect any ranking. That said, this Hungarian map certainly belongs he top of the list and remains one of my personal favorites. I was quite surprised to discover that its default AI List is based exclusively on the two heroes, the MAN NL202 and NG272.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map recreates the southern part of Pest, the section of the Hungarian capital, Budapest, located south of the Danube River that divides the city. I have been playing this map since Version 3, and it has only gotten better with each release. I’m genuinely hoping that a new version will arrive in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Installation requires a fair amount of downloading, but fortunately everything can be found on the The Creators website<\/a>. Simply follow the instructions in the ReadMe file and download the required dependencies. Once you’ve completed a few runs with the faithful MAN buses, you can experiment with the additional AI Lists included with the map, allowing for a much wider variety of buses with appropriate liveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map is not perfect. The area around the central station can occasionally feel a bit frustrating, and there are a few rough edges here and there. Even so, it is more than worth the effort and remains one of the finest freeware OMSI 2 maps available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belgrade<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This map represents the western part of the Serbian capital, and it does it well. While there are a few more buses that can be used on this map as part of the package, the core and the regular AI list are based on the stars of the event, including perfect paint schemes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a relatively modest but well-executed map – not too difficult to drive, neither too easy. There are also plenty of AI lines around, and the length of the lines is reasonable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The graphics hold up well compared to the time it was released, 2016, and the user manual is also nicely presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, I liked this is map more than others. And most importantly: you don’t have to download anything extra, unless you want the additional buses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Express 91.06<\/h2>\n\n\n

This free French map, with large industrial areas, towns and villages between Moulon and Paris, is installed alongside the original game<\/a> as free DLC. This means there is no effort beyond selecting the map in the list, choosing a line, and setting off \u2014 by default, it is intended for the NL 202 – E92 in its Euro version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is quite difficult to drive, relatively speaking, especially in terms of maintaining schedules. It does not offer too many passengers and really requires effort and attention, also because you cannot use the OmniNavigation app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All and all. it’s an excellent advanced driving lessons map – in OMSI 2 terms, of course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also quite unique, until its original creators launched a much larger commercial map, with many more lines to choose from and a much more modern one, called Grand Paris Moulon<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I started playing OMSI 2, this was one of the first free maps I downloaded and installed, mainly for the reason that later inspired this article – it only uses MAN NL\/NG buses. In my opinion, it can even be described as a classic map for OMSI 2 players of of OMSI 2 al al levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map strikes a good balance: it is not overly complicated, yet it includes both long, relaxed routes and more demanding lines that require attention. Despite relying entirely on default assets, it still manages to feel distinctive, especially thanks to its well-designed central bus station, which features dedicated waiting bays for each line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, it is not without flaws. Night routes suffer from missing navigation signage, so using OmniNavigation is highly recommended. There are also occasional issues with vehicles getting stuck. Still, it remains a map that is absolutely worth experiencing at least once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More experienced players, especially those familiar with the wider OMSI 2 map ecosystem, will also notice that it is built upon an earlier map, with subtle remnants still visible throughout. I\u2019ll leave those details for the that Sherlock Holmes inside of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This particular map is actually one of the main reasons this article exists. Some years after it’s was first uploaded, it’s creator decided to re-upload to some site, bringing it back to the attention of the OMSI community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is definitely a short play map: four very short daytime routes and a slightly longer night service. On paper, that may not sound particularly exciting, so why should you play it? Because in practice this map has a lot of character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the custom company busses’ livery and the excellent scenery, to the outstanding route instructions that could serve as an example for many map creators, everything feels polished and well thought out. The package even includes a well-written user manual available in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Installing the map can test your patience due to the number of required downloads, but once everything is set up, you’ll quickly see why it remains such a memorable OMSI experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
